I have a reason to be bummed about being in Indiana right now — at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, their Corpse Flower (named Lois) is in the process of blooming! This is really exciting because in captivity the flowers RARELY bloom! And the last flower that actually bloomed in the US was waaay back in 1999!
I guess my consolation prize is that HMNS does have a live feed for me (and everyone else) here: WATCH LOIS LIVE
Still wish I could be there though!!
PS — the name does come from the fact that the flower smells like rotting flesh. Don’t take my word on it: Look it up!!
