Some are old,
Some are new,
Some are fiction,
Some are true.
I used to listen almost exclusively to audio books while commuting — post the start of motherhood I’ve found that I don’t have the listening stamina for staying awake to listen to a book — I needed SOMETHING else, so I turned to the world of podcasts.
Here are five of my current favorites, in no particular order – some are Catholic-y, some are geeky, I enjoy them all 🙂
one// The Catholic Hipster
If you remember a while back, I posted that Tommy nominated me for the 2017 Catholic Hipster Mom award. A couple months prior to this I had found Tommy and Sarah’s twitter handles and started binging on older episodes of the hipstercast – and really really enjoyed it.
I’m a lover of weird stories and happenings. I grew up in mining towns all over Nevada, some of which had sites that were supposedly haunted and/or had really weird things tied to them, well, and I grew up outside of the Nevada Test Site and we drove passed the turn to the ET Highway each time we hopped over to visit my grandparents. I only discovered Lore a couple weeks ago, but have been slowly working my way through the archives and enjoying every single episode! I’m hoping the series picked up by Amazon proves to be just as awesome.
three// Up and Vanished
A friend of mine turned me onto UAV back in January and I binged hard to get caught up. I did listen to Serial when NPR put it out, but was kind of “eh” about it. UAV I’ve been really enjoying, especially (and frustratingly) as it’s now dealing with going into an active investigation!
four// The Catholic Feminist
I have to thank Catholic Twitter for turning me onto this one. I saw it in passing and decided to look it up, and am very happy I did. I don’t consider myself a feminist in the sense that most women these days do — probably more in lines with what great women like Eleanor of Aquitaine and Susan B. Anthony would have considered themselves feminists in a way — I’m a woman, I believe I’m strong, but I don’t hate men. I firmly believe that I am my husband’s compliment and I don’t feel oppressed by the Church nor the patriarchy. Though, there are times were I’ll stop and be like “should I feel that way”? *grin*
five// Stuff You Should Know
My mom wouldn’t be surprised to find out I listen to this — I’ve loved finding out seemingly useless information most of my life. SYSK is awesome because the episodes are about random and interesting stuff like beer, Route 66 and tickling. Plus, you never know when all of this random information will be useful 😉
So dear readers — there you go. Now you know some of what I put into my brain on a regular basis while commuting, working and doing dishes. Have a podcast you think I should check out? Leave the name and link in the comments 😀
